CJ Bolland

Born in Stockton-on-Tees, United Kingdom, in 1971 and settled in Belgium from childhood, CJ Bolland trained in Antwerp’s club scene before establishing himself in the early 1990s on the European techno scene. His work blends Detroit techno, acid house, rave and electro in a writing that is dense, melodic and direct, driven by dry rhythms and strongly marked synth lines. After his first maxi-singles for R&S Records, the Ravesignal series and the track 'Horsepower' propelled him, and 'Camargue' in 1993 becomes one of his most recognizable tracks. CJ Bolland then released the albums The 4th Sign (1992), Electronic Highway (1995) and The Analogue Theatre (1996), a period during which he also developed a widely active DJ presence in the United Kingdom and Europe, notably with DJ-Kicks: CJ Bolland (1995). From the mid-1990s onward, he signed several remixes for artists from techno, electronic and pop, while evolving his sound toward a tighter, club-oriented techno. Later, CJ Bolland founded the label Mole Records and pursued a more spaced-out solo trajectory, while developing with Tom Barman the Belgian project Magnus, active between rock, electronic and spoken word, with the albums The Body Gave You Everything (2004) and Where Neon Goes to Die (2014).
