Ziv Ravitz

Born in 1976 in Beersheba, Israel, Ziv Ravitz trained very early between piano, guitar and drums before dedicating himself to jazz and improvised music. Based in the United States after composition studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, since the early 2000s he has developed a career shared between New York, Europe and the Israeli scene. His drumming sits in a modern, flexible, and detailed jazz, attentive to dynamics, texture changes, and the interplay between writing and improvisation. Ziv Ravitz co-founded the trio Minsarah with Florian Weber and Jeff Denson, a project that notably led him to play with Lee Konitz, with whom Deep Lee appeared in 2008 and Live at the Village Vanguard in 2009. In parallel, Ravitz has led his own projects, documented by Images from Home in 2009 and then No Man Is an Island in 2019. His path also crosses with Shai Maestro, whose trio he joined in the early 2010s, as well as trumpeter Avishai Cohen, in his quartet on Naked Truth in 2022 and Ashes to Gold in 2024. He can also be heard alongside Oded Tzur or Dominic Miller, in a register where contemporary jazz dialogues with an open, at times lyrical writing, always anchored in collective listening.
