Yaron Herman
Israeli pianist and composer born in Tel Aviv in 1981, Yaron Herman turned to the piano relatively late after a childhood shaped by sport, and with his teacher Opher Brayer developed an improvisational approach based on logic and play. Settled in Paris in the early 2000s, he quickly became part of the European jazz scene, alternating solo work with trio projects. His early recordings, including 'Takes 2 Know 1' (duo, 2004), 'Variations' (2005) and 'A Time for Everything' (2007), laid the foundations of a language that blends contemporary jazz, classical heritage and references to popular music. With 'Muse' (2010) and 'Alter Ego' (2012) he broadened his palette by incorporating rhythmic elements borrowed from rock and electronic music, while continuing to revisit pop and folk themes. Subsequently signed to labels such as ACT and later Blue Note, the pianist increased his concerts and international tours, favoured compact ensembles and regularly collaborated with European and American musicians from modern jazz.
