EYM Trio
Founded in Lyon in 2011, EYM Trio brings together pianist Elie Dufour, double bassist Yann Phayphet and drummer Marc Michel in an acoustic piano–double bass–drums format that moves between contemporary jazz and jazz fusion. From its inception the trio has developed a compositional voice marked by movement, touring and the integration of musical references gathered across Europe, the Near East and Asia, while remaining within the jazz trio framework. Their first album, Genesi, was released in 2013 and established the foundations of this instrumental language. With Khamsin in 2016, EYM Trio broadened its palette by inviting artists such as Mohamed Abozekry and Marian Badoï, accentuating exchanges between swing, Mediterranean motifs and Eastern colours. The group continued this openness with Sādhana in 2018, nourished by a collaboration with Indian singer Mirande Shah and guitarist Gilad Hekselman, and with Bangalore in 2023, recorded with Varijashree Venugopal. Over the years EYM Trio has performed at venues and festivals including La Défense Jazz Festival, Tokyo Jazz Festival, Calcutta Jazz Festival, Nakasu Jazz Festival and Jazzahead!, pursuing an international trajectory in which the trio format remains at the heart of music that is mobile, precise and receptive to multiple traditions.
