Willie J Healey
Born in Carterton, Oxfordshire, Willie J Healey has since the mid-2010s developed a pop-rock writing with soft contours, oscillating between British indie rock, light psychedelia, folk rock and touches of funk. Self-taught, Willie J Healey began releasing several EPs, including HD Malibu and Saturday Night Feeling in 2015, followed by Hey Big Moon in 2016, before a debut album, People and Their Dogs, released in 2017. His career continued with Twin Heavy in 2020, where his taste for direct melodies, hushed guitars and slightly offbeat arrangements takes a more assertive form. In 2023, Willie J Healey released Bunny, an album that broadened his palette further with a softer and more rhythmic sound, without abandoning a lo-fi, handmade aesthetic. Among the touchstones of this period, the track Thank You features Jamie T. On stage, Willie J Healey moves between independent venues, festivals and opening acts for artists such as Gaz Coombes, Florence + the Machine, Arctic Monkeys or Idles, which clearly marks his anchor between the English indie scene and a broader alternative pop. His music rests on concise songs, a nonchalant voice and a way of harmonizing melodic simplicity, vintage textures and oblique refrains.
