Wheatus

Founded in the mid-1990s in Northport, New York, Wheatus crafts an alternative rock sound infused with pop rock and power pop, where melodic guitars and catchy choruses meet a frequently ironic tone. Led by singer and guitarist Brendan B. Brown, around whom the lineup often shifts, Wheatus broke through in 2000 with the single “Teenage Dirtbag,” from the self-titled album “Wheatus” released the same year. The band followed with a cover of Erasure’s “A Little Respect,” then continued its discography with “Hand Over Your Loved Ones” (2003) and “Too Soon Monsoon” (2005), before returning in 2013 with “The Valentine LP,” exploring more acoustic textures while remaining within a melodic rock framework. On stage, Wheatus favors flexible setups—sometimes a full band, sometimes a stripped-down set—and tours regularly in the United States as well as Europe. Wheatus’s lyrics blend tales of adolescence, pop culture references, and everyday observations, helping to anchor the band in a recognizable space between indie rock and alternative pop.
