Thyrfing
Formed in Stockholm in 1995, Thyrfing established itself on the Swedish metal scene with a blend of Viking metal, black metal and folk metal centered on dark atmospheres, massive riffs and keyboards adding a marked melodic color. Inspired by Nordic mythology even in its name and lyrics, Thyrfing began as a side project before quickly securing a lasting place in the underground circuit thanks to several demos, and then a self-titled debut album in 1998. The band followed with Valdr Galga in 1999, Urkraft in 2000 and Vansinnesvisor in 2002, pushing its writing toward a broader and darker formula, balancing black metal aggression, restrained epic accents and more crafted structures. Present on European stages from the early 2000s, Thyrfing notably played in Germany, the Benelux and at specialized metal festivals, before continuing its discography with Farsotstider in 2005, Hels Vite in 2008 and De Ödeslösa in 2013. The arrival of Jens Rydén on vocals in 2007 marks a new chapter in Thyrfing's history, without a break with the band's identity, still rooted in a tension between violence, melody and Scandinavian imagery.
