Vanir

Founded in 2009 on the island of Seeland in Denmark, Vanir develops melodic death metal with pagan and folk elements, drawing inspiration from the history and mythology of northern Europe. The band, built around guitarist and composer Phillip Kaaber, initially operated in a folk metal register with Viking themes before moving toward a more direct and melodic sound while retaining a martial and historical imagery. Vanir released its debut album, “Særimners Kød,” in 2011, followed by “Ravnenes Saga” in 2014 and “Aldar Rök” in 2016, which established the band on the Danish metal scene and opened doors to specialized festivals across Northern Europe. With “Allfather” (2019) and “Sagas” (2022), Vanir confirmed a tighter style in which aggressive riffs, clear melodic lines and growled vocals alternate around lyrics focused on battles, mythological figures and tales from the Norse past. Through regular tours in the Scandinavian countries and Germany and an active presence within the network of European metal labels, Vanir has steadily consolidated its place in the contemporary melodic death metal landscape.
