Tom Jones
Born in Pontypridd, Wales, in 1940, Tom Jones rose to prominence in the 1960s at the intersection of orchestral pop, soul and rhythm and blues. Discovered in London, he recorded his first singles in 1964 and quickly found a wide audience with 'It's Not Unusual' in 1965, followed by songs such as 'What's New Pussycat?' and 'Delilah', which established Tom Jones's broad, direct vocal style. His early albums, including 'Along Came Jones' (1965), 'Green, Green Grass of Home' (1967) and 'Delilah' (1968), mix covers and original compositions in a crooner‑pop aesthetic influenced by rock and country. By the late 1960s he developed an active stage career, notably in Las Vegas, and hosted the television show 'This Is Tom Jones' between 1969 and 1971, which boosted his international visibility. Tom Jones later adapted his repertoire to the changes in pop and international variety entertainment, collaborating occasionally with artists from younger generations, notably on the duet album 'Reload' (1999). The records 'Praise & Blame' (2010), 'Spirit in the Room' (2012), 'Long Lost Suitcase' (2015) and 'Surrounded by Time' (2021) mark a more stripped‑down direction toward gospel, blues and folk, extending a career focused on vocal interpretation and live performance.
