The Brooks

Founded in Montreal in 2013, The Brooks brings together, around bassist and musical director Alexandre Lapointe, a collective of musicians active on Québec’s funk and soul scene, with American singer Alan Prater at the forefront. Rooted in the funk heritage of the 1970s, the group develops a sound focused on groove, dense rhythm sections and brass arrangements, incorporating shades of soul, R&B and jazz, sometimes tinged with rock and hip‑hop influences. The Brooks first established itself in Montréal clubs through residencies and live‑oriented performances, before expanding to tour festival stages in Québec and Europe. The release of the album “Dépaysement” in 2014 laid the foundation for this aesthetic centered on group dynamics and improvisation, followed by “Pain & Bliss” in 2017 and “Any Day Now” in 2020, which confirmed The Brooks’ identity as a band that is tight in the studio yet open to extended forms in concert.
