The Adolescents

Formed in Fullerton, Orange County, California, in 1979, The Adolescents emerged at the intersection of punk rock and the Southern California hardcore scene. Centered on Tony Reflex and bassist Steve Soto, the band made its mark in the early 1980s with a fast, tense yet melodic sound—catchier than many hardcore acts of the era—driven by sharp guitars and straightforward choruses. Their debut album, Adolescents (1981), remains their most iconic recording. An early split was followed by several reunions and lineup changes involving members such as Rikk Agnew, Frank Agnew, Casey Royer and briefly Pat Smear. The Adolescents returned in the late 1980s with Brats in Battalions (1987) and Balboa Fun*Zone (1988) before another hiatus. Reconstituted in the early 2000s, they revitalized their activity with OC Confidential (2005) and went on to release albums including The Fastest Kid Alive (2011), Presumed Insolent (2013), La Vendetta... (2014), Manifest Density (2016), Cropduster (2018), Russian Spider Dump (2020) and Caesar Salad Days (2023). After Steve Soto’s death in 2018, The Adolescents have continued around Tony Reflex with a renewed lineup.
