Descendents

Formed in the late 1970s in Manhattan Beach, California, Descendents established themselves as an American punk rock band associated with the West Coast melodic hardcore scene. Centered on drummer Bill Stevenson and originally featuring Frank Navetta and Tony Lombardo, later joined by vocalist Milo Aukerman, the band developed a fast, melodic style marked by short songs, a direct tone and lyrics focused on adolescence, relationships, everyday life and a certain geek culture. The debut studio album, “Milo Goes to College” (1982), set the template for this approach, followed by “I Don’t Want to Grow Up” (1985), “Enjoy!” (1986) and “All” (1987), released within the US independent punk context. Line-up changes, notably the arrival of Karl Alvarez and Stephen Egerton, coincided with breaks related to Milo Aukerman’s scientific career, with Descendents alternating between band activity and side projects. Subsequent returns to the studio produced “Everything Sucks” (1996), “Cool to Be You” (2004), and later “Hypercaffium Spazzinate” (2016) and “9th & Walnut” (2021), which also revisited older material. Descendents remain tied to international punk circuits through regular touring and a discography that links fast hardcore, punchy melodies and personal themes.
