Sweet

Formed in London in 1968, Sweet first made its mark on the British scene with a pop repertoire tinged with bubblegum before shifting toward a harder brand of glam rock from the mid‑1970s onward. The classic quartet brought together Brian Connolly on vocals, Steve Priest on bass, Andy Scott on guitar, and Mick Tucker on drums, and worked closely with songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman—a partnership that shaped the band’s early phase with hook‑laden singles and a strongly defined stage image. The move toward a heavier sound—blending hard‑rock riffs, pop choruses, and tight vocal harmonies—comes through on the albums Funny How Sweet Co‑Co Can Be (1971), Sweet Fanny Adams (1974), and Desolation Boulevard (1974), which established Sweet on European and North American rock stages. After the original line‑up dissolved in the early 1980s, the Sweet name resurfaced in various incarnations built around former members, in particular the group led by Andy Scott, keeping Sweet active on the road and maintaining a repertoire that spans glam rock, melodic hard rock, and pop rock.
