Steve Rachmad
Born in Amsterdam in 1969, Steve Rachmad has built a lasting career in Dutch techno since the late 1980s. His work, influenced by Detroit’s legacy, features deep melodic lines and crisp rhythms designed for both attentive listening and the club. Active early on as a DJ in his hometown’s clubs, he developed a parallel career as a producer under his own name and several aliases — notably Sterac, Ignacio, Parallel 9, Dreg and Adverse Match — which allowed him to explore different shades of a restrained, hypnotic and often warm techno. His album Secret Life of Machines, released in 1995 as Sterac and reissued in a remastered and remixed edition in 2012, stands as a milestone in that trajectory. In 2015 he also issued Steve Rachmad vs. Sterac - In Session, a project juxtaposing two sides of his musical world. Across maxi singles, remixes and sets, Steve Rachmad remains associated with a precise, fluid and melodic techno developed over time between Amsterdam’s scene and the European techno circuit.
