Soma

Soma takes shape in Istres, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, around four musicians who came together in the early 2000s after several years of shared practice. The band develops a French rock sung in English, situated between pop-rock, alternative rock and power pop, with dense guitars, melodic choruses and a regular tension between front-end energy and a more melancholic tone. Active on the French scenes for more than a decade, Soma first releases several EPs, including In The Princess’ Arms in 2002, Nuits Salées in 2005, then Soma in 2009, before releasing the albums Jewel And The Orchestra in 2010 and Nobody’s Hotter Than God in 2012. Along this journey, Soma works with interlocutors linked to the Anglo-Saxon rock scene, notably Dave Sardy for the mixing of Jewel And The Orchestra and Tony Hoffer for Nobody’s Hotter Than God, which accompanies a more assertive writing without changing the central balance of the band between catchy pop and rock intensity. The line-up originally brings together Lionnel Buzac, Sébastien Claret, Thomas Bitoun and Thomas Fenouil, later replaced by Xavier Fernandes on bass. Soma ends its activity in 2015 after a journey built between self-production, label releases and regular live presence.
