Prinz Pi

Active on the German‑language rap scene since the late 1990s, Prinz Pi, born Friedrich Kautz in Berlin, first made his mark on the local underground under the pseudonym Prinz Porno, delivering explicit battle rap and early releases such as «Heute gibt es Krieg!» (2002) and «Teenage Mutant Horror Show» (2003). From «Neopunk» (2004), released under the name Prinz Pi, his writing shifted toward a more narrative and reflective register, blending social commentary, cultural references and depictions of everyday Berlin life over productions close to alternative hip‑hop and occasionally pop‑rap. Firmly established in the German rap landscape, Prinz Pi went on to release several albums that were pivotal to his career, including «!Donnerwetter!» (2006), «Rebell ohne Grund» (2011), «Kompass ohne Norden» (2013), «pp=mc²» (2015), «Im Westen nix Neues» (2016) and «Nichts war umsonst» (2017), while intermittently reviving his alias Prinz Porno, notably with «Teenage Mutant Horror Show 2» (2014). Alongside his work as a rapper, Prinz Pi developed graphic and design projects, founded his own label Keine Liebe Records and engaged in numerous collaborations within the German hip‑hop scene, alternating conceptual solo releases and more accessible tracks on the border between chanson and rap.
