Noora Noor

Born in Dubai in 1979, Noora Noor grows up between the United Arab Emirates and Norway, where she settles as a child. A Norwegian singer of Somali and Yemeni origin, Noora Noor emerged in the late 1990s with a repertoire spanning neo-soul, R&B, pop-soul and touches of jazz. Signed at a very young age, she drew attention with the Curious album in 1999, notably propelled by the track Need You, co-written with Tor Erik Hermansen, at a time when the Stargate production duo was supporting her early career. Her career continued with All I Am in 2004, then took a more organic direction rooted in the soul and blues tradition with Soul Deep in 2009, recorded with musician and producer Kid Andersen and musicians from the American rhythm and blues scene. This evolution highlights a more stripped-down interpretation, nourished by gospel, vocal jazz and blues. Parallel to her albums, Noora Noor has appeared in collaborations with Norwegian artists such as Madcon and has also performed in broader stage contexts, notably in Jesus Christ Superstar and later Porgy and Bess. Over the course of her career, Noora Noor thus shifted her center of gravity from produced contemporary soul toward a more classical expression, while maintaining direct melodic writing and a central vocal presence.
