Night Lovell

Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Shermar Cuba Paul has since the early 2010s developed a solo project under the name Night Lovell, at the crossroads of hip-hop, trap, cloud rap, grime, and a dark, slowed phonk. His breakthrough came in 2014 with \"Dark Light\", a track widely circulated online and instantly establishing a nocturnal, heavy and minimalist aesthetic, driven by a deep voice, slow tempos, and highly atmospheric productions. After the Concept Vague mixtape in 2014 and the I’ll Be Back EP the same year, Night Lovell refined this register on Red Teenage Melody in 2016, then on Goodnight Lovell in 2019, Just Say You Don’t Care in 2021 and I Hope You’re Happy in 2023. His trajectory sits at the crossroads of the North American internet rap scene and broader live circuits, with occasional collaborations with $uicideboy$, Freddie Dredd, Corpse Husband, Dylan Brady, bbno$ or Ramirez. From one record to the next, Night Lovell remains attached to hazy atmospheres and introspective writing, sometimes abrasive, where underlying tension, detachment and dark melodies mingle.
