Nerina Pallot

Born in London in 1975 and raised largely on the island of Jersey, Nerina Pallot developed a singer-songwriter approach informed by pop, folk-rock and piano ballads, with a marked preference for direct melodies and spare arrangements. After musical training in London, she released her debut album Dear Frustrated Superstar in 2001, before pursuing a more independent course. That second phase took shape with Fires in 2005, a record that blends acoustic pop, light rock and more introspective songs, and which firmly established her on the British scene, notably with Everybody’s Gone to War and Sophia. She also appears on Delerium’s Truly, and went on to release The Graduate in 2009, Year of the Wolf in 2011, The Sound and the Fury in 2015, Stay Lucky in 2017 and I Don’t Know What I’m Doing in 2022. Over the years Pallot has alternated label releases and self-releases, while keeping a songwriting format centred on voice, piano and guitar. Her music sits between pop songcraft, contemporary folk and soft-rock touches, with lyrics that are often personal, ironic or melancholic, and she maintains a regular presence on British stages, both touring and supporting other artists.
