Minino Garay

Born in Córdoba, Argentina, Minino Garay moved to Paris in the early 1990s and has since developed a career at the crossroads of jazz, Latin American music and blended forms. A percussionist and singer, he works both in acoustic contexts and on projects more open to Argentine popular rhythms, Afro-Latin poly rhythms and improvisation. Minino Garay moves between contemporary jazz, song and world music, with a very physical approach to rhythm, nourished by the traditions of the Southern Cone and by the Paris scene. Over the years, Minino Garay has played and recorded with musicians such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Magic Malik, Baptiste Trotignon, Jacky Terrasson, Richard Bona or Laurent de Wilde, while leading his own ensembles. His discography as a leader includes notably Minino Garay y los Tambores del Sur (2002), Kilombo (2005), Que Lo Pario! (2009), Gabriel (2012), Asado (2013), Vamos (2015), Chimichurri (2016) and Speaking Tango (2022). In his projects, Minino Garay blends percussion, voice, grooves from popular dance ensembles, tango, Argentine folklore and jazz language, while maintaining a flexible format that leaves a significant space for collective playing and for movement between styles.
