Michelle Birkballe

Based in central Jutland, Denmark, Michelle Birkballe has been developing a musical world since the late 1990s that sits between rock’n’roll, rockabilly, country and blues, performed in both English and Danish. A guitarist, songwriter and singer, she relies on a tight electric lineup—often billed as the Michelle Birkballe Band—where rockabilly rhythms and twangy guitars remain at the core of the sound. Her songs draw on everyday scenes, direct portraits and stories from working‑class backgrounds, written in a simple, narrative style. For many years she continued to work as a hairdresser alongside her music, a profession that also shapes her public image. She has built her career on a network of clubs, small venues and regional festivals, primarily in Denmark, with occasional appearances elsewhere in Northern Europe. Over the years she has toured in full-band and stripped-down formats and recorded several studio albums rooted in a rock‑roots tradition, regularly collaborating with musicians from the Scandinavian rock and Americana scenes.
