Michael Learns To Rock
Formed in Aarhus, Denmark in 1988, Michael Learns To Rock belongs to a soft rock and pop rock lineage centered on clear melodies, catchy choruses, and a pronounced affinity for English-language ballads. The band formed around Jascha Richter, joined by Mikkel Lentz, Kåre Wanscher and originally Søren Madsen, who left in 2000, before Michael Learns To Rock continued as a trio. After debuting on the Danish scene in the late 1980s, the group established itself in the 1990s with the albums Michael Learns to Rock (1991), Colours (1993), Played on Pepper (1995) and Nothing to Lose (1997), which forged a mature, flexible and melancholic pop sound, balancing discreet guitars, keyboards and sentimental lyricism. Michael Learns To Rock rapidly built a strong presence in Asia, where its tours became a central pillar of its career, far beyond Scandinavia. The subsequent chapters include Blue Night (2000), Michael Learns to Rock (2004), released in Asia under the title Take Me to Your Heart, followed by Eternity (2008), Scandinavia (2012) and Still (2018). Without radically changing its aesthetics, Michael Learns To Rock has evolved its production toward a smoother, more contemporary pop, while preserving a highly legible song structure and a sentimental register at the heart of its identity.
