Nicolas Jules
Active since the mid-1990s, Nicolas Jules first developed his craft around Poitiers after a spell in the rock band Mama Vaudou, before establishing a solo writing style focused on the French chanson. Self-taught on guitar, he builds a world where the lyrics remain central, often in a stripped-down format touched by folk, blues and rock inflections. His early public milestones include the Francofolies de La Rochelle in 1998, the Printemps de Bourges in 1999 and the Alors Chante! festival in Montauban in 2000. After several EPs, he released the album Le Cœur sur la table in 2004, then Powête in 2008 and Shaker in 2010, the latter recorded in Montréal with Fred Boudreault, Urbain Desbois and Roland Bourbon, a musician who regularly accompanies him on stage. His discography was later enriched by titles such as La nuit était douce comme la queue rousse du diable au sortir du bain (2013), Crève-Silence (2017), Les Falaises (2019), Douze oiseaux dans la forêt de pylônes électriques (2020), Le Yéti (2021), Carnaval Sauvage (2022) and La reine du secourisme (2024). In parallel with his solo work, Nicolas Jules is also a member of Bancal Chéri and September Cohen.
