Nick Holder

Born in 1969 and based in Toronto, Ontario, Nick Holder began his DJ career in the early 1980s and moved into production in the early 1990s. His work sits between house and hip-hop, with a particular emphasis on deep textures, rhythms rooted in Chicago, disco accents and a discernible influence from Detroit’s techno scene, especially in the way he articulates groove and minimalism. Nick Holder founded DNH Records for his house productions and Treehouse Records for his hip‑hop projects, and has also released on Studio !K7, NRK, Poker Flat and Stickman. His discography includes One Night in the Disco (1997), Still On Track (1998), From Within (1999), Underground Alternatives (2000), The Other Side (2003) and Black Jazz (2008). Both in clubs and on record, Nick Holder crafts a supple, direct sound aimed at the dancefloor without losing an introspective dimension, as heard on tracks like Da Sambafrique, Trying To Find Myself and No More Dating DJs. He remains associated with the independent North American house scene, active across underground circuits, specialist labels and international electronic programming.
