Mae
Formed in Norfolk, Virginia in 2001, Mae sits within a melodic indie rock that crosses emo, power pop and alternative rock, with writing centered on clear guitars, keyboards and expansive choruses. The band takes shape around Dave Elkins and Jacob Marshall, and then begins to draw notice in the early 2000s with Destination: Beautiful (2003) on Tooth & Nail, before proceeding with The Everglow (2005), an album that broadens its approach toward a more conceptual and atmospheric format. Mae then goes on to tour, notably on the American rock circuit and the Vans Warped Tour, and releases Singularity in 2007 after a stint with Capitol Records, with a sound more direct and tight. After several lineup changes, Mae develops in 2009 a singular project of songs released over the months, later gathered on the Morning, Afternoon and Evening EPs between 2009 and 2011. Put on hold in the early 2010s, Mae then resumes regular live activity from 2013, often around album anniversaries and heritage tours. The band returns to the studio with Multisensory Aesthetic Experience in 2018, extending its taste for immersive formats and a more expansive aesthetic, always built on the balance between emo tension, pop-rock textures and measured lyricism.
