Mabel Matiz

Born in 1985 in Tömük, in the Mersin region of Turkey, Mabel Matiz, stage name of Fatih Karaca, first drew attention at the end of the 2000s by anonymously releasing his early songs on MySpace, before leaving his dentistry job to devote himself to music. His writing sits within Turkish pop open to acoustic arrangements, electronic textures, and folk or rock influences, with a voice often placed at the forefront and a clear focus on the lyrics. Mabel Matiz released his self-titled debut album in 2011, followed by Yaşım Çocuk in 2013 and Gök Nerede in 2015, which accompany his transition from underground circuits and small venues to wider visibility on the Turkish scene. With Maya in 2018, and Fatih in 2023, his music grows still broader while preserving this blend of melodic pop, intimacy, and local cultural references. Alongside his own records, Mabel Matiz writes and composes also for other performers in Turkish pop, and pursues collaborations without limiting himself to a single register. His career thus sketches a distinctive trajectory in contemporary Turkish music, between singer-songwriter, studio pop, and formal research.
