Los Tucanes De Tijuana

Formed in Tijuana, Baja California, in 1987 around Mario Quintero Lara, Los Tucanes de Tijuana operate within Pacific norteño, a branch of regional Mexican music marked by the accordion, the bajo sexto, dry rhythms and a repertoire that mixes narrative corridos, dance songs, cumbias and rancheras. Born in the border context between northwest Mexico and California, the group first played at parties and small venues before entering the Latino circuit in Los Angeles, where its identity solidified. The trajectory of Los Tucanes de Tijuana is supported by a prolific discography, notably Me robaste el corazón (1994), Mundo de amor (1995), Imperio (2003), El árbol (2010), 365 Días (2012), Prueba superada (2018) and Retro-Corridos Vol. 2 (2022). Mario Quintero’s songwriting, at the heart of the project, has shaped a direct style often rooted in popular narrative and social chronicle. Over the years, Los Tucanes de Tijuana have also appeared on stages beyond the strict regional mexicano sphere, with sets at Pa’l Norte, Coachella in 2019 and Vive Latino in 2020, while maintaining occasional collaborations with artists such as La Original Banda El Limón, El Fantasma and Fuerza Regida.
