Los Tigres Del Norte

Founded in the late 1960s in San José, California, by brothers originally from Rosa Morada in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico, Los Tigres Del Norte are rooted in norteña music and, more broadly, Mexican regional music. The family band, centered on Jorge Hernández and his brothers, developed a repertoire of narrative corridos, rancheras, waltzes and cumbias, driven by accordion, bass and tight vocal harmonies. They began to attract attention in the mid-1970s with songs that portray life at the border, migration, work in the United States and the tensions associated with trafficking, while also addressing sentimental themes and everyday scenes. Over the decades Los Tigres Del Norte have played countless shows at popular dances, palenques and large venues in Mexico and the U.S., alternating studio recordings with live albums. Records such as Jefe de jefes (1997), MTV Unplugged: Los Tigres del Norte and Friends (2011) and Realidades (2014) punctuate this trajectory, along with occasional collaborations with rock and Latin pop musicians. Without abandoning their norteña identity, the group gradually incorporated more varied arrangements and socially conscious lyrics, placing Los Tigres Del Norte at the intersection of Mexican popular culture and the Mexican‑American migrant experience.
