Babasónicos

Formed in the early 1990s in the southern suburbs of Buenos Aires, Argentine band Babasónicos initially emerged within the local alternative rock wave, blending the legacy of national rock, pop references and a taste for experimentation. Centered on singer Adrián Dárgelos, Babasónicos developed on early albums such as Pasto (1992) and Trance Zomba (1994) a universe marked by psychedelic textures, sudden tempo shifts and a frequent use of irony in the lyrics, before consolidating a more abrasive side on Dopádromo (1996) and Babasónica (1997). With Miami (1999) and especially Jessico (2001) and Infame (2003), the group moved toward more concise formats and a more melodic sound in which rock approached pop, electropop and sometimes chanson, while maintaining a strong focus on arrangements. The death of bassist Gabriel "Gabo" Manelli in 2008 occurred during a period of intense live activity in Latin America and Europe, but did not interrupt Babasónicos' creative continuity, which followed with Mucho (2008), A propósito (2011) and Romantisísmico (2013). Continuing to explore a mix of rock, pop and electronic nods, Babasónicos refined this aesthetic on Discutible (2018) and Trinchera (2022), while remaining linked to major Spanish-language rock stages and a festival circuit where the band defends a repertoire spanning more than three decades.
