Lil Peep

Gustav Elijah Åhr was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and raised in Long Beach, on Long Island. Lil Peep emerged in a few years as one of the faces of the meeting between rap, emo, pop-punk and alternative rock. Active from 2014, initially under the name Trap Goose and then as Lil Peep, he released his early tracks online and quickly drew attention with 'Star Shopping', before the mixtapes Lil Peep, Part One and Live Forever in 2015. His straightforward writing, focused on depression, addictions, relationships and malaise, relies on lo-fi production, trap rhythms, and a marked use of melodies inherited from melodic punk and emo of the 2000s. Based in Los Angeles, Lil Peep first frequented Schemaposse and then GothBoiClique, an important setting in his live development and aesthetics. In 2016, Crybaby and Hellboy refined this crossover between plaintive singing, casual rap and sampled guitars. In 2017, after tours in the United States, Europe and Russia, he released his first studio album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1, which pushes further the pop-punk and rap-rock dimension of his repertoire. Died in November 2017 in Tucson at 21, Lil Peep left a brief but dense discography, later extended by several posthumous releases, including Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2 in 2018 and Diamonds with iLoveMakonnen in 2023.
