Maxence Cyrin
French pianist and composer Maxence Cyrin, born in Besançon in 1969, has developed since the 2000s a body of work at the intersection of classical music, pop and electronic genres. Trained in piano and the Romantic repertoire, he early on took an interest in indie rock, new wave and techno, which he later transposed into a language for solo piano. Based in Paris, Cyrin first drew attention with the album “Modern Rhapsodies” (2005), devoted to acoustic reinterpretations of electronic tracks, and then with “Novo Piano” (2009), where he explored a broader repertoire from rock and pop. He subsequently alternates between original compositions and covers, notably on “The Fantasist” (2012), “Nocturnes” (2014) and “Novö Piano 2” (2015), favoring a pared-down melodic writing close to minimalism. In concert, Maxence Cyrin performs mainly solo—on concert stages, at festivals and sometimes in settings that combine music, imagery and visual arts—while several of his performances have been used in films and television series.
