Yann Tiersen

Yann Tiersen is a French composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, born in Brest in 1970. Known for his singular and emotionally charged approach to music, he moves between classical composition, folk, rock and electronic music without ever being confined to a single genre. He achieved international recognition in 2001 with the soundtrack to Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, whose piano and accordion melodies have left a lasting mark on the collective memory. Yet Tiersen refuses to be reduced to that image and has continued to build an impressive body of work rooted in a pursuit of sincerity and experimentation.

His albums, from Le Phare to Dust Lane and from Eusa to Kerber, reflect a constant evolution in which the poetry of everyday life meets sonic exploration and introspection. Inspired by the nature and landscapes of his island, Ouessant, where he lives and records most of his projects, he explores the links between music, memory and place. On stage, Tiersen combines acoustic instruments, electronic machines and ambient textures to create immersive performances that blur the boundary between art music and popular music. A discreet but visionary artist, he has collaborated with a range of figures such as Shannon Wright, Jane Birkin and Dominique A, and remains an essential reference on the European independent scene. His work, both intimate and universal, continues to move listeners by its ability to capture the fragile beauty of reality.
