Matthias Tanzmann
Born in Leipzig in 1977, Matthias Tanzmann has been part of the German electronic scene since the late 1990s, at the crossroads of techno, tech-house and a minimal house with flexible, percussive grooves. A resident of the Distillery club from 1997, he initially developed the Gamat 3000 project with Daniel Scholz, which brought his production work to prominence around the turn of the millennium, notably with the album All Seasons in 2001. In 2000 he co-founded the Leipzig-based label Moon Harbour Recordings and has directed its artistic line — a central framework in the evolution of his sound, characterised by pared-down structures, bouncing basslines and a constant attention to the dynamics of the dancefloor. His solo discography includes Restless (2008), Momentum (2016) and Round And Round (2020). At the same time he has pursued numerous collaborative formats, including Tanzmann & Stefanik with Daniel Stefanik and Better Lost Than Stupid with Martin Buttrich and Davide Squillace; the trio’s album Wild Slide was released in 2019. Active on European and international club stages, Matthias Tanzmann is also a long-time associate of Circoloco at DC10 in Ibiza and curated the Fabric 65 compilation in 2012.
