KOAN Sound

Formed in Bristol by Will Weeks and Jim Bastow, KOAN Sound has since 2008 developed electronic music that initially circulated in the dubstep circles before expanding toward glitch-hop, drum and bass, neurofunk and more melodic constructions. The duo drew attention with their first maxis at the end of the 2000s, then refined a dense and mobile writing on the EPs Free (2011), Max Out (2011) and The Adventures of Mr. Fox (2012), a period during which KOAN Sound published notably on OWSLA and toured in Europe as well as North America. Their trajectory gradually moved away from the more upfront formats to incorporate funk rhythms, cinematic textures and a marked taste for changing arrangements, also perceptible in Sanctuary with Asa (2013) and Dynasty (2014). After Forgotten Myths (2015), KOAN Sound returned with its first album Polychrome (2018), released on Shoshin, their own label, where one finds a broader and more narrative approach to electronic music. The duo then continued this work with the EPs Intervals Above (2019), Silk Wave (2020) and Chronos (2021), while maintaining regular live presence on stage and in electronic circuits mixing club, festivals and live formats.
