Jim Gaffigan
Born in 1966 in Elgin, Illinois, and raised in Indiana, Jim Gaffigan built his career in New York around stand-up comedy. Emerging from the 1990s club circuit, he refined an everyday observational style centered on food, family life, fatigue, Catholicism, and generous self-deprecation, often punctuated by an inner voice that comments on his own jokes. His filmed and recorded specials—Doing My Time (2004), Beyond the Pale (2006), King Baby (2009), Mr. Universe (2012), Obsessed (2014), and Cinco (2017)—were released as audio albums and videos, showcasing deliberately accessible humor that largely avoids vulgarity. Alongside his touring, Gaffigan appears regularly in American film and television, in both comedic and more dramatic roles, and co-wrote with Jeannie Gaffigan the semi-autobiographical series The Jim Gaffigan Show, which aired from 2015 to 2016. His more recent projects—Quality Time (2019), Comedy Monster (2021), and Dark Pale (2023)—continue to blend intimate personal chronicle, social observation, and a playful take on his image as an overburdened family man.
