La Pegatina
Born in 2003 in Montcada i Reixac in the Barcelona area, La Pegatina has from the start developed a blend of Catalan rumba, ska and gypsy punk, driven by acoustic guitars, percussion, brass and often shared vocals. First launched as Pegatina Sound System, the Catalan collective soon took shape as a larger-band format, with lively songwriting and songs that move between Spanish, Catalan and other languages of the peninsula. La Pegatina released Al carrer! in 2007, Via Mandarina in 2009 and Xapomelön in 2011 — a period during which the group significantly stepped up touring in Spain and across European stages, including a stint in China. Over the years they broadened their palette with Eureka! (2013), Revulsiu (2015), Ahora o Nunca (2018) and Darle la vuelta (2020), keeping a rumba-derived rhythmic base while incorporating Balkan touches, reggae, rock and popular song traditions. Documented collaborations include Manu Chao, Che Sudaka, Amparo Sánchez, Esne Beltza and Ska-P, placing La Pegatina within a cross-border network between the Iberian alternative scene and European festive music.
