Lââm
Born in Paris to a family of Tunisian origin, Lââm emerged in the late 1990s in a register between French variété, pop and contemporary R&B, with a vocal delivery marked by soul and songwriting aimed at radio-friendly songs. After singing in the metro and training at la Manufacture Chanson, she was noticed in 1997 and in 1998 recorded a cover of Michel Berger’s “Chanter pour ceux qui sont loin de chez eux,” which launched her career. Lââm subsequently released the albums Persévérance (1999), Une vie ne suffit pas (2001) and Lââm (2004), the latter reissued the following year as Pour être libre — a period during which her repertoire adopted more R&B inflections and featured several collaborations, notably with Jean-Jacques Goldman and Princess Aniès. In 2002 she also took part in the musical Cindy by Luc Plamondon. Her later work includes Le Sang chaud (2006), the compilation On a tous quelque chose de Lââm (2009) and the covers album Au cœur des hommes (2011). Since then Lââm has mainly focused on performing live and regularly appears on collective tours dedicated to the repertoires of the 1990s and 2000s.
