Ian van Dahl

Belgian project of dance and trance active in the 2000s, Ian van Dahl formed around the producers and writers Erik Vanspauwen and Christophe Chantzis, with singer and lyricist Annemie Coenen as the main face from the first international successes. The name Ian van Dahl remains associated with melodic eurotrance built on fast tempos, highly readable choruses, and production situated between vocal trance, eurodance, and hands up. The project emerged in 2000 with Castles in the Sky, initially recorded with Marsha, then reinterpreted with Annemie Coenen, before following with Will I?, Reason and Try, which established Ian van Dahl on European club stages and in several international circuits. Two studio albums appeared, Ace in 2002 and Lost & Found in 2004, marking continuity in melodic writing while expanding the range toward a more flexible dance-pop on some tracks. Over the years, other producers linked to the Belgian scene, including Peter Luts and David Vervoort, participated in the project. The singles I Can’t Let You Go, Where Are You Now?, Believe, Inspiration, Movin’ On and Just a Girl accompany this second phase before Ian van Dahl ceased in 2008, after which Annemie Coenen continued with AnnaGrace.
