Heather Small

Born in London in 1965 and raised in Ladbroke Grove in the west of the city, Heather Small belongs to a British soul tradition informed by contemporary R&B, house and dance-pop. She began singing with Hot House before joining M People around the turn of the 1990s—the group formed by Mike Pickering—where her deep, direct voice became a defining element of an aesthetic that blends club culture, soul and pop hooks. That period firmly established her on British and European stages across radio, dancefloors and mainstream concerts. In the late 1990s she developed a solo career without severing ties to M People, releasing Proud in 2000, Close to a Miracle in 2006 and Colour My Life in 2022. Her solo repertoire extends the strengths of her band work, featuring songs centered on vocal power, soul-pop arrangements and production shaped by English dance music. Heather Small also took part in the charity single Perfect Day ’97 and recorded a duet with Tom Jones, “You Need Love Like I Do,” in 2000, while continuing to alternate personal projects, tours and regular returns with M People.
