Hardsoul

Formed in the Netherlands in 1997 around brothers Rogier van Bueren, also active as DJ Roog, and Greg van Bueren, Hardsoul developed a house sound oriented toward soulful and vocal house, with warm, rhythmic production marked by funk, disco and Latin influences. Hardsoul began releasing music in the late 1990s and gained visibility in the early 2000s with several releases on Soulfuric Recordings, a label associated with American club house. The duo opted for singles and EPs rather than albums, producing a style that mixes deep grooves, soul vocals and dancefloor effectiveness. In 2003 Hardsoul recorded "Sweatshop" with New Cool Collective, then "Back Together" with Ron Carroll on ITH, a Defected sublabel — a track that remains a milestone in their career. Their subsequent path included other collaborations, notably with Olav Basoski, Shaun Escoffery, Amma and Jeroenski, as well as remix and DJ activities. Their name also appears in the HouseQuake project, led with Erick E, reinforcing a steady presence on Dutch and European house scenes.
