Gruesome

Gruesome is an American death metal project formed in 2014, bringing together musicians from the extreme scene such as Matt Harvey (Exhumed), Daniel Gonzalez (Possessed), bassist Robin Mazen (Derkéta) and drummer Gus Rios (formerly of Malevolent Creation). Conceived as a direct tribute to Death and the Floridian death metal tradition of the late 1980s, the band developed a sound characterized by complex song structures, fast tremolo riffs, pronounced tempo changes, melodic solos and a dark atmosphere, with lyrics focused on death, horror and the morbid aspects of the human condition. Signed to Relapse Records, Gruesome released the album Savage Land in 2015 and Twisted Prayers in 2018, interspersed with EPs that further the project's stylistic reinterpretation. The 2024 release Silent Echoes continues this exploration of death metal directly inspired by Death’s early recordings, while sharpening the group's cohesion on record and on stage during tours and festivals across Europe and North America.
