Gianna Nannini
Born in Siena, Italy, Gianna Nannini established herself from the mid-1970s with a personal writing style and a rough voice that place her music in a tense pop rock, sometimes traversed by new wave, melodic hard rock and sparser ballads. After a stint with Flora Fauna Cemento, she released her first self-titled album in 1976, then defined her language on California in 1979, before widening her European audience in the 1980s with G.N. in 1981, Latin Lover in 1982, Puzzle in 1984 and Profumo in 1986. Her career then developed between Italy, Germany and Switzerland, with regular tours and production collaborations that accompanied the evolution of her sound without smoothing its energy. Gianna Nannini then alternated studio albums, live records and parallel projects, from Scandalo in 1990 to Dispetto in 1995, Cuore in 1998, Aria in 2002, Grazie in 2006, Io e te in 2011, Inno in 2013, Amore gigante in 2017, La differenza in 2019 and Sei nell’anima in 2024. Over the decades, she also wrote songs for other artists, recorded several notable duets, participated in soundtracks and developed a direct stage presence rooted in a rock infused with Italian chanson where vocal intensity, melody and rhythmic tension mingle.
