Giancane

Born in Rome in 1980 under the name Giancarlo Barbati Bonanni, Giancane has since the early 2010s developed a solo project anchored in a cantautore writing style where folk rock, melodic punk, and disenchanted pop cross paths. Initially active as a guitarist in the Roman band Il Muro del Canto, with which he participated in the band's early years, he launched his personal trajectory in 2013 with the EP Carne. His first album Una vita al top appeared in 2015, followed by Ansia e disagio in 2017, which defined a tone of dry irony, urban narratives, and direct arrangements, between acoustic and electric guitars, immediate choruses, and rock tension. Giancane then continues his journey in close connection with the Italian independent scene, while expanding his work to music for image. His collaboration with Zerocalcare marks an important step, with the music of the series Strappare lungo i bordi in 2021 and then Questo mondo non mi renderà cattivo in 2023. In the same year, Giancane also releases the album Tutto male, as well as Carne 2, broadening a repertoire where sarcasm, melody, and a form of everyday triviality occupy a central place. On stage, Giancane adopts a band format that gives his songs a more upfront energy, between Italian alternative chanson and punk rock.
