FM
Born in London in 1984, FM initially brought together Merv Goldsworthy and Pete Jupp, formerly of Samson, with brothers Steve and Chris Overland, who had come from Wildlife, and keyboardist Didge Digital. FM belongs to the melodic British hard rock tradition with strong AOR influences, featuring clear choruses, clean guitar work and a pronounced sense of songwriting. After an early, notable appearance at the Marquee Club, the band released Indiscreet in 1986 and Tough It Out in 1989—two records that established FM’s identity on the late-1980s UK rock scene. The lineup later evolved with the arrival of guitarist Andy Barnett and keyboardist Jem Davis, and the band followed with Takin’ It to the Streets (1991), Aphrodisiac (1992) and Dead Man’s Shoes (1995) before disbanding the same year. Reformed in 2007 after Firefest, FM relaunched with Jim Kirkpatrick on guitar and resumed a regular presence on British and European stages, touring, playing festivals and supporting acts such as Foreigner, Thin Lizzy and Saxon. Since that return FM has added Metropolis (2010), Rockville and Rockville II (2013), Heroes and Villains (2015), Atomic Generation (2018), Synchronized (2020), Thirteen (2022) and Old Habits Die Hard (2024) to their discography.
