Tyketto
Born in New York in the late 1980s, Tyketto fits into the era’s American melodic hard rock, with a sound combining AOR-style choruses, punchy guitars and rock ballads carried by Danny Vaughn’s voice—Vaughn was formerly the singer of Waysted. The band took shape in 1987 around Vaughn, guitarist Brooke St. James, bassist Jimi Kennedy and drummer Michael Clayton, then signed to Geffen before releasing Don’t Come Easy in 1991, the album that includes “Forever Young,” which has remained their best-known track. In a scene quickly reshaped by the arrival of grunge, Tyketto’s trajectory was slowed: Kennedy was replaced by Jaimie Scott and the second album, Strength in Numbers, was initially shelved by the label and finally released in 1994. In 1995 Danny Vaughn left Tyketto and Steve Augeri took over vocals for Shine, before the band split the following year. Reformed in 2004 around its original core, Tyketto resumed regular activity on stage and in the studio, notably with Dig in Deep (2012) and Reach (2016), continuing a repertoire that sits between hard rock, melodic rock and the glam legacy of the 1990s.
