Subway To Sally
Formed in the early 1990s in Potsdam, Germany, Subway to Sally occupies the German-language rock and metal scene by combining medieval sounds with electric energy. The band started with a folk-rock repertoire sung in English, before quickly switching to German and strengthening its roots in Mittelalter-Rock, pairing heavy guitars with violin, bagpipes and other acoustic instruments. This evolution is reflected in a substantial discography: albums such as “Herzblut” (2001), “Engelskrieger” (2003) and “Nord Nord Ost” (2005) mark key stages in shaping Subway to Sally’s sound at the intersection of folk metal, hard rock and elements close to Neue Deutsche Härte. The lyrics, mostly written in German, draw on historical, religious and literary imagery and favour storytelling and dark atmospheres. On stage Subway to Sally champions this blend of metallic riffs and medieval arrangements across clubs and festivals in Central Europe, regularly sharing bills with other folk-influenced rock and metal acts while continuing throughout the 2010s and 2020s to build a career focused on amplified, medieval-inspired music.
