Emily King

Born in New York into a family of jazz musicians, Emily King grew up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, surrounded by clubs and studios where she took her first steps as a teenage backing vocalist. Positioned between contemporary R&B, soul and pop, Emily King gradually built an aesthetic centered on voice, clear melodies and a pronounced sense of intimacy, with songs that blend smooth grooves, carefully crafted harmonies and introspective songwriting. After several demos circulated in the New York circuit, she released the album East Side Story in 2007, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album and firmly placed her within the American soul scene. The 2011 EP Seven marked a more independent turn, followed by The Switch in 2015, where she honed a more stripped-down sound influenced by folk and acoustic pop. With Scenery (2019) and Special Occasion (2023), Emily King deepened this mix of R&B, pop and alternative soul, playing on contrasts between understated production and rich vocal arrangements, while maintaining a steady schedule of performances in intimate venues and on international tours.
