Greg Howe
Born in New York in 1963, Greg Howe established himself at the end of the 1980s in the American instrumental guitar scene after having played in clubs in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. His first album, Greg Howe, released in 1988, sits within the hard rock and shred aesthetics of the time, before a rapid move toward a smoother and more syncopated jazz fusion on Introspection (1993), then Uncertain Terms (1994), Parallax (1995), Five (1996), and Hyperacuity (2000). Greg Howe's playing blends very fluid legato phrasing, fast articulations, funk accents, and harmonic construction derived from fusion, with a strong sense of groove as much as virtuosity. Parallel to his solo career, Greg Howe formed Howe II with his brother Albert, participated in the Tilt (1995) and Project (1997) albums with Richie Kotzen, then recorded Extraction (2003) with Dennis Chambers and Victor Wooten. His career also includes significant work as a live and session musician for Michael Jackson, Enrique Iglesias, NSYNC, and Justin Timberlake. Later, Greg Howe released Sound Proof (2008) and Wheelhouse (2017), while joining Simon Phillips on Protocol 4 in 2017. Later settled in Nevada, Greg Howe continues to alternate tours, collaborative projects, and teaching activity.
