Disbelief

Formed in Darmstadt in the state of Hesse in 1990, Disbelief entered the German metal scene with a sound rooted in death metal that over the years incorporated elements of sludge and thrash and at times adopted a heavier, groovier approach. The band is built around Karsten Jäger’s deep, rough vocals — the only original member — joined in the mid-1990s by bassist Jochen Trunk, another central figure. After several demos in the early part of the decade, Disbelief released a self-titled debut in 1997, followed by Infected in 1998, and moved toward denser, more nuanced writing on Worst Enemy (2001), Shine (2002), Spreading the Rage (2003) and 66Sick (2005). Subsequent albums — Navigator (2007), Protected Hell (2009), Heal! (2010), The Symbol of Death (2017), The Ground Collapses (2020) and Killing Karma (2024) — demonstrate a continuity in the band’s dark aesthetic, defined by massive riffs, heavy tempos and measured melodic tension. Disbelief has also performed on stages such as Wacken Open Air and the No Mercy Festival while remaining tied to a European metal circuit characterised by touring and lineup changes.
