Format:B

The Berlin-based techno and tech-house duo Format:B brings together producers and DJs Franziskus Sell and Jakob Hildenbrand, who have been active on the German electronic scene since the mid-2000s. Emerging from Berlin’s club and minimal-label environment, Format:B gained attention with maxi releases characterized by precise rhythms and prominent basslines, released notably on Highgrade Records before launching their own label, Formatik Records, in the early 2010s. Their first album, Steam Circuit (2008), fits this aesthetic between minimal techno and house: functional and detailed, designed for the dancefloor but attentive to textures and micro-variations. Format:B’s productions blend repetitive structures, short breaks and fragmented vocal elements, with a strong focus on percussion and contrasts between tension and release. The duo also maintains an active schedule of DJ sets and live performances at clubs and festivals across Europe, integrating into the international tech-house scene while remaining attached to the heritage of the Berlin sound.
